Investigation of Technological Research Trend on the Pacific Basin Lighting Congress -LUX PACIFICA-, and on the Lighting Culture of the Conference Host Country

5. Closing Remarks

The first LUX PACIFICA Shanghai Conference of the Pacific Basin Lighting Congress was born with vigorous cry of a newborn child in April 1989 corresponding to the voices of many illumination researchers, illumination engineers, and illumination designers in the Pacific lands, and the fourth LUX PACIFICA New Delhi Conference in September 2002 finished successfully.

Currently, the Pacific Basin Lighting Congress counts the following eight affiliated organizations: the Illumination Engineering Institute of Australia and New Zealand, the Illumination Engineers Association of India, the Illumination Engineering Institute of China (consolidated with the Hong Kong Illumination Committee), the Thai Illumination Society, the Illuminating Engineering Institute of Northern America, the Illuminating Engineering Institute of Russia, and the Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan. International Organization Committee of the Pacific Basin Lighting Congress has been calling on the Korean Academy of Illumination Engineering and Electric Appliances to be a member of this congress. If the affiliation of the Korean Academy of Illumination Engineering and Electric Appliances is realized, it is considered that the fifth conference (planned to be held in FY2005) might be held in Korea. We have been excited in potential opportunity for direct contact with the lighting culture of the adjacent country, Korea (the Republic of Korea).

There is each regionally pertinent culture in each city in the world, and it may not be too much to say that city scenery and its night scenery symbolize the lighting culture of each city (streets). It is a pleasure to directly experience the lighting culture of a host country (venue). In addition, the international conferences have merits for participants because of opportunities to exchange information with many other people.

Furthermore, it is considered that illumination research and illumination engineering of Japan has already reached the level of being a transmitter of information in the Pacific lands. It can be said that "experience comes later." It is sincerely expected that many young researchers and engineers, who lead the 21st century in various fields, will read this article and participate in many international conferences starting from the next conference of the Pacific Basin Lighting Congress to be held in FY2005.
