Design Award For Light and Lighting 2010

The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan(IEIJ) presents the Design Award for Light and Lighting program this year to offer the honor to professionals designer of illumination all over the world who create unique design work related to light and lighting.
This program aims to encourage creative.

1. Work to be honored

The Design Award for Light and Lighting is to be awarded to the work having excellent design as follows:

(1)The work that create space and the environment by means of light and lighting

(Architectural lighting, performance by illumination, CG in consideration of the effect of light, etc.,)

(2)Creation of lighting environment in consideration of effective use of energy

(Illuminating plan and lighting design method, effective application of the natural lighting, etc. in consideration of energy saving)

(3)Excellent design of the Illuminating equipment that is well balanced in function / performance / shape

(Development of equipment having excellent light-distribution characteristics, efficiency, shape etc., and development of illuminating equipment having excellent design)

Any work, project within Japan or outside, may be implemented.

2. Conditions for application

  • The design (project) must be practically implemented and disclosed to the public in the period from January 1st 2008 to December 31st 2009. “To be put in practical use” means that the outcome of the project is implemented or manufactured as commercial product.
  • An applicant must obtain permission of nomination from the persons associated in the project design before application.
  • In principle, an applicant is desired to be an individual. A joint work by a group (number of individuals) however, may be acceptable.
  • Anyone, IEIJ member or nonmember, may nominate a project for the award.
  • The nominated design (project) will be, in principle, announced at the annual (national).
  • Conference of the IEIJ, published (carried) in the journal of the IEIJ and posted on the home page of the web site of the IEIJ.
  • All materials, including photographs, will becomes the property of the IEIJ, and will not be returned to the applicant. The IEIJ will have privileges to reproduce all materials related to the nomination without permission of the applicant for the journal, the English journal and the home page of IEIJ.
    (Please specify the name of designer etc., if you wish a credit.)

3. Commendation

  • The number of winners will be one, or two. If the examination result indicates that there is no winner, commendation will not be performed.
  • A certificate of merit and an extra prize will be awarded to a winner.
  • The work might give the encouragement prize worth the encouragement.

4. Application procedure

  • Please submit an application (the original and the additional explanation) by CD and attach one copy of printed-out.
  • Application documents shall be a maximum three sheets of additional explanation (photos, drawings etc.) (a maximum 3 sheets in total, and all in A4 size).
    Application materials should be about 10 color photos, with respective captions (about 50 characters). Please paste 4 photos on A4 thick paper.
    Please submit the application documents which is saved as WORD or POWERPOINT.
    Please attach one additional folder for correspondence with original photograph file in order to prepare for deterioration of image quality.
  • A maximum 3 minutes animation (VHS, miniDV cassette, CD, DVD) for additional explanation can be attached.
  • The contents of an application from shall be described according to the instructions given by the IEIJ (institute) on the application form.
  • Please submit the original and one copy of application documents (application form and additional explanation).
  • Please attach one copy of document describing the organization or company to which an applicant belongs.
  • Please ask the IEIJ (Institute) for a blank application form E-mail or download an application form that is posted on the home page of web site of the IEIJ (http://www.ieij.or.jp).

5. Examination

  • The IEIJ (Institute) will establish the examination committee, which will examine application according the examination rules.
  • The IEIJ (Institute) will ask an applicant to submit additional information, if necessary.

Friday, January 29, 2010. (You may send application documents by registered mail.)
